Hillittömän hyvä menovinkki kaikille, jotka ovat kiinnostuneita muodista vähän sen tavallisimman shoppailu-genren ulkopuolellakin:
Kaikille avoin luento “Paris Fashion during the occupation” Tukholman yliopistossa 13. lokakuuta, klo 15.00 – 16.00 luentosalissa C6, Campus Frescati.
“Paris Haute Couture during World War 2: Survival, pragmatism or collaboration? – the design, making and consumption of Haute Couture Fashion and Fabrics in Paris and Lyon under German Occupation.”
“This presentation will discuss the isolation of Paris couture from its usual
international clientele. It will assess the development of its extraordinary extravagant
Occupation style and the war –time Vichyist imagery used in couture fashion style
and in fabrics collections produced in Lyon during the German Occupation: 1940-
44.’ With exports dramatically reduced, the continuation of work by most of the Paris
couture salons was enabled economically by the advent of a new fashion community
of couture consumers, which included the wealthy wives and mistresses of black
marketers and collaborators, young actresses and film stars, with only a few German
clients. Thus presentation will show that the essence of focus of the couturiers was to
keep their businesses alive, at all costs, especially their international links, and to
keep it alive against all odds and no matter how closely that brought them into contact
with their conquerors and occupiers.”
